ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -The Ellen Noel Arts Museum is taking the next step in its renovation process.

The museum hosted a live demolition to keep the community updated with the new project.

They tore down the museum’s facade and now the next step is adding a new design to the museum.

This is the first live demolition of the Ellen Noel Arts Museum.

The construction workers took down the facade of the building and are planning to build a new design.

“This is the first tangible front-facing event to show the community that construction is happening at the Ellen Noel Arts Museum,” said Director of Marketing and Development of Ellen Noel Arts Museum Jon Montgomery.

The director of the Ellen Noel Arts Museum says the new exterior will represent the art community in Odessa.

“When you see that facade go up and when you drive by you will see activity in there you are going to see full of light and people. That’s what it is, the museum is about Odessans and people who visit here, and so part of that infrastructure is going to allow us to be back to industry standards,” said Executive Director of Ellen Noel Arts Museum Sheila Perry.

There was an award ceremony to give recognition to the construction workers for helping with the project.

“It’s an appreciation for us as a demo crew we just come in and were gone and no one talks to us anymore it’s kind of nice to get the award.” said construction worker George Rodriguez.

The new renovations will allow expansion to both their educational programs and their art exhibits.

It will be beneficial for the museum and the community.

“I think those programs that we offer educational, and exhibits are going to bring people in and we are going to have more room to hold more people,” said Jon Montgomery.

The total cost of the renovations is twenty million dollars.

They are planning to have it completed by the end of 2025.
